About the Artist - Edward Stanwyck

"I began carving as the result of necessity rather than pursuing a hobby."
"Briefly, I live in Pennsylvania and worked for a major eastern steel corporation. One Christmas there was a temporary lay-off, and I had a young son expecting toys and such. Unprepared for a lay-off I went to the basement to try making him something. With a pocketknife & scrap wood I discovered I had a knack for carving. Years later, having more time to give, I decided to try carving as a hobby."
"When I took up pipe smoking I found Charles' Pipe Collectibles on the Internet and discovered the beautiful Stanwell line he sells, and I set out to learn how to smoke them correctly. The pipe tools of metal didn't impress me, so having plenty of exotic materials in my shop, I made my own pipe tools. I enjoy carving life-size sea turtles but when I relax in the woods, fish, or just sit on the porch I like creating "smalls" such as fishing lures. However, I find creating pipe tools (without making them all exactly alike) more challenging and satisfying as I enjoy seeing, holding, & using them myself." --Edward Stanwyck
(Ed also made a pipe tool for me - black ebony with an inlaid pipe - which I love! His materials are top quality, his woods are rich and beautiful, and his work is excellent. I highly recommend his fine line of one-of-a-kind pipe tools. Not only will you enjoy holding & using these beautiful works of art, but they also make great gifts!! -- Charles)
